Uninstall

Uninstalling removes the AFDIM plugin from AutoCAD®. Your drawings are not affected. The dimensions, callouts and centrelines that AFDIM drew are ordinary AutoCAD objects with no link to the plugin. Those drawings open, print and edit in the same way afterwards.

Uninstall from Windows

1. Close AutoCAD completely: every AutoCAD window, not only the drawing. AFDIM runs inside AutoCAD, and Windows cannot delete a file that is in use.

2. Open Windows Settings › Apps › Installed apps. On Windows 10 this page is called Apps & features. The wording depends on your Windows version and language.

3. Find AFDIM and choose Uninstall. A default install needs no administrator rights, so do not run its uninstaller as administrator.

4. The Uninstall AFDIM window shows AFDIM will be removed from this computer. Your licence is always kept. with one checkbox, cleared by default:

   Also delete my AFDIM settings and logs (cannot be undone)

   • Leave it cleared to keep your settings. A later reinstall uses them again.
   • Tick it to also delete %APPDATA%\AFDIM (settings and saved standards), %LOCALAPPDATA%\AFDIM (logs; the licence inside it is kept) and %TEMP%\AFDIM (exported geometry files).

5. Choose OK.

The checkbox deletes the folders of the Windows account that runs the uninstaller. Other accounts on the computer keep their own.

Your licence is kept

The checkbox never deletes a licence. %LOCALAPPDATA%\AFDIM\license and %ProgramData%\AFDIM\license stay, so AFDIM runs again after a reinstall without a new activation. To remove a licence from a computer on purpose, delete those two folders.

The uninstaller does not release the licence key. To use the key on another computer, first move the licence.

The update cache and the Start Menu shortcut are removed in both cases.

If AutoCAD or another CAD application was still open, the uninstaller keeps the files that it holds and shows a window that says so. To finish, close every CAD window, then run the uninstaller again, or reinstall and uninstall. The files that remain are listed in the uninstall log. No restart is requested.

An install for all users (/ALLUSERS) needs administrator rights to remove. Its uninstaller is %ProgramFiles%\AFDIM\uninstall\unins000.exe. If it is missing, repair the install with the official installer first, then uninstall. Never run an uninstaller from %ProgramData%. See Deployment for silent uninstall commands.

See what AFDIM keeps on this computer

In AutoCAD, open the settings dialog: choose Settings on the AFDIM ribbon tab, or run AFDIM and enter S at the selection prompt. Go to the About tab and choose Remove AFDIM from this computer… in the Remove AFDIM group. A window opens with the title Remove AFDIM <version> from this computer, where <version> is the installed version. The window:

• explains that AFDIM cannot be removed from inside AutoCAD, because AutoCAD has it loaded
• repeats the two steps that remove AFDIM: close AutoCAD completely, then use Windows Settings › Apps › Installed apps › AFDIM › Uninstall
• says that your licence is always kept, and that settings and logs are deleted only if you tick the box in the uninstaller
• lists, under On this computer:, every place where AFDIM keeps files: Settings and saved standards, Support logs, Exported bug reports, Update cache, Licence (this machine), Licence (this account), Uninstaller and The plugin itself
• shows the number of files, the size and the path of each place, and not present for a place that does not exist
• marks the two licence places with — kept
• shows the path of the uninstaller after Uninstaller:, which you can select and copy

The only button is Close. The window deletes nothing and starts nothing.

Dimensions that are already in your drawings are not changed. A layer that AFDIM created in a drawing stays there: AFDIM_CENTER, or a layer that you picked in the settings and that the drawing did not have. Remove such a layer with the AutoCAD command PURGE when nothing is on it.

The table shows a per-user install. In an all-users install, the plugin is in %ProgramFiles%\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\AFDIM.bundle. %ProgramData%\AFDIM\license exists only if Windows allowed AFDIM to write it during activation.
